The competiton saw a jury consisting of angels and startup specialists from Silicon Valley, Europe and other regions listening to pitch presentations from forty-seven entrepreneurs from both sides of the Atlantic.
Dolf Wittkamper, Head of EIT Digital Accelerator said: “We are very happy for Origone, they should be very proud of this achievement. This award, in the context of the prestigious CES in Las Vegas, demonstrates the ability of EIT Digital to find the most innovative top level scaleups in Europe.”
Oxfordshire Cyber-Security firm Origone recently joined EIT Digital’s Accelerator programme to help scale up its business across Europe.
Based at the prestigious Harwell Science Park in Oxford, UK, Origone joined the EIT Digital Accelerator with ambitions to build itself into a global cyber-security software business.
Origone’s software provides large corporates and SMEs with comprehensive protection against ever-changing email malware threats, such as ‘phishing’ and Trojan Horses, that can cause havoc at organisations. The clever software dis-assembles and sanitises all incoming messages and attachments before they can be opened, giving businesses a powerful protective shield against cyberattacks.
Origone will participate in EIT Digital’s Digital Infrastructure Action Line which supports innovation in areas including infrastructure itself, convergence of computing and networking, integrated cybersecurity and privacy, and built-in intelligence. As well as providing coaching and expert advice, the Accelerator will open doors for Origone to corporate customers and partners, and to targeted venture capital investors from across Europe through EIT Digital’s Access to Finance programme.
Other EIT Digital-supported ventures attending CES 2017 include:
- Fit to Perform, an EIT Digital innovation activity has developed a wearable that tackles health risks for professional truck drivers by monitoring drivers’ vital signs. By informing both drivers and haulage companies on safe driving limits it aims to increase road safety and improve profit margins for the transportation sector.
- Life-Time Awareness, an EIT Digital innovation activity that developed an application embedded in battery-powered devices to estimate their remaining lifetime accurately. It led to the creation of a startup called Wisebatt, founded by EIT Digital Doctoral School graduate Wilfried Dron. It addresses OEMs, hardware and software designers, and support services providers.
In addition, the winner of the Digital Wellbeing category of the 2016 EIT Digital Challenge, BLITAB Technology Ltd is also attending and promises to be one of the biggest European disruptive innovations to be showcased at the conference.
The Austrian startup developed the first tablet device that creates tactile Braille and graphics for blind and visually impaired people. To produce tactile Braille the tablet uses smart micro fluids to develop small physical bubbles instead of a screen display. With this technology the company aims to improve the social wellbeing and digital inclusion of people who may have had difficulty accessing the digital world until now.
